Nagpahayag ng pagkabahala ang US Embassy sa isinasagawang reclamation projects sa Manila Bay, kasama ang mga isyung may kinalaman sa kalikasan.
Sa isang kalatas, sinabi ni US Embassy spokesperson Kanishka Gangopadhyay na madalas ang komunikasyon nila sa Philippine government hinggil sa potentsyal na negatibong epekto sa kalikasan,
“resilience of Manila Bay and nearby areas to hazards, as well as commerce.”
Ipinunto rin niya ang agam-agam sa pagkakasangkot ng isang Chinese company sa mga proyekto.
“We are also concerned that the projects have ties to the China Communications Construction Co., which has been added to the US Department of Commerce’s Entity List for its role in helping the Chinese military construct and militarize artificial islands in the South China Sea,”anang embahada.
“The company has also been cited by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank for engaging in fraudulent business practices,” dagdag nito,
Wala pang kibo ang China Communications Construction Co.sa pahayag ng US Embassy, na lumabas matapos ilathala ang isang artikulo online na kinokontra ng Washington ang mga proyekto bunsod ng koneksyon nito sa Chinese company.
“We continue to support high quality, sustainable, and transparent investments to benefit the Filipino people and will continue to engage with the appropriate authorities on this matter,”sabi ng embahada..
